What I Learned From Taking A Break From Blogging And Why You Should Have One Too

What I Learned From Taking A Break From Blogging

What I Learned From Taking A Break From Blogging

I never intended to take a break from blogging. Somehow, between a stressful two weeks of having a new kitchen fitted and then having a nasty cold, this little space got a bit neglected. I’ll admit I’m not the best at sticking to a regular blogging schedule anyway, but I kind of detached myself a little bit and it was kinda liberating! Here’s what I learned and why everyone should have a break from their blog every now and then.

I WASN'T HAPPY

Over the last few months I've felt like Lelore was plateauing. It hadn't seen any consistent growth for a while and I was struggling to come up with new content ideas. I also got stuck in the comparison trap, which we all know is a bad road to go down. I love seeing my blogging pals getting picked for awesome campaigns, but at the same time I was feeling a little left behind. Because I was feeling a bit low about the whole thing I wasn't enjoying putting new content out, and I was worried that you guys would notice and that the quality of what I was putting out would suffer.

NO ONE WILL NOTICE

It’s all too easy to worry about what other people will think if you’re not putting out content for a week or two, but quite honestly what I learnt from having a break was that when it comes down to it, no one but me cared. If you’re working with brands on campaigns or sponsored content and you’re not able to fulfil them, then of course let them know what’s going on and when they can expect it to be live, but other than that, there’s no need to worry. Truth is, everyone else is off doing their own thing, and probably won’t notice anyway! And if you do get a few comments or tweets checking in to see where you’re at, it’s actually quite nice to know that people care! What I’m trying to say is, it’s not the end of the world and everyone deserves a break every once in a while.

MORE TIME EQUALS MORE INSPIRATION

In the two weeks that I didn't open up Blogger, I really got stuck into my Bloglovin' feed and dedicated my time to catch up with my favourite blogs and what beauty content was trending right now. This is actually one of my favourite ways to get inspired, and the ideas starting flowing in! Before I knew it I was full of content ideas, and itching to get back to work.

REFOCUSING GOALS

Now that I had all these ideas swimming around I spent a little bit of time having a look at Google Analytics, trying to access what content you guys like, who's reading it and when etc. What I found was that actually my numbers were on the up, they weren't plateauing like I thought they were. I try not to obsess about numbers, so instead about once a month I have a lil peep and see what's happening. I've set myself a few new goals too, such as trying to post more consistently, and possibly - hold the phone - even putting a schedule in place. The average time people are spending on my blog could be improved too so I'm going to create more content to help with that one, and I'm even toying with adding in more personal style posts as well.

THE BLOGGING COMMUNITY ISN’T ALL BAD

With more time to crack on with other things I spent more time on Twitter, immersing myself in the community and talking to a few of my favourite internet peeps. I think sometimes it's all too easy to see the nasty side of the blogging community, as a lot of shade gets thrown around. Having more time to talk to people and bounce ideas off of one another reminded me just how great my blogging friends are and how much we champion each other. I feel so lucky to have an amazing blogging support network, with amazing ladies such as Laura, Nadia, Maria, Lily and Laura that I can have a super honest chat with and they're awesome at offering advice and being supportive.

If you haven't had a little break from your blog our any other creative pursuit you may have, I think it's really helpful to have some time every once in a while to step back, remember why you're doing it in the first place and to gather your creativity as I'm so excited to get back to it now with renewed enthusiasm and lots of ideas to boot!

Have you had a break from blogging before and if so, what did you learn from it? Also, can we take a moment obsess over these £3 silver loafers from Primark?! Obsessed!
