Double Cleanse

Caroline Hirons and Pixi Beauty Double Cleanse

The premise of double cleansing is pretty simple but its surprising how many people miss out on it. Personally, as a teen I spent many hours watching Liz Earle on QVC, so its something I did from the very off.  In case you're not familiar, the first cleanse is to remove makeup, SPF and anything else that might be lurking about on the surface of the skin, before going back in and really cleansing the skin thoroughly. Washing off the day as soon as I get in the door is such a cathartic experience for me, and one I often think about during the day, it's just so nice!

Sometimes the second you hear a product is coming out you just know it's going to be awesome. That was pretty much my reaction when the Caroline Hirons and Pixi Beauty Double Cleanse collaboration was announced. Caroline is the Queen of Double Cleansing and Pixi's Skin Treats range is already well recognised as being darn right wonderful so more reason to pick it up! I've been using Pixi Beauty + Caroline Hirons Double Cleanse for a few weeks now so it's about time I gave you my verdict. Funnily enough my most popular blog post of all time is a write up of one of Caroline's cleansing workshops so I think many long time readers of my blog will hopefully enjoy this one too.

Housed in a very sturdy pot (not one for travelling with sadly), Double Cleanse is split into two completely different formulas. On one side there's a solid cleansing oil to get things going and to melt away makeup - and heck it does this well, and on the other side there's a super soft cream cleanser to gently clean the complexion.

I've used so many solid balm cleansers over the years - including Pixi's Nourishing Balm Cleanser, but the solid cleansing oil in Double Cleanse is quite unique. It instantly melts away makeup, turning into a more liquid oil before it then morphs into a milk that washes away hours of pollution and my daily four coats of mascara. There's no irritation whatsoever as there's no nasty parabens, fragrance, mineral oil and the like. Instead it's packed full of really good ingredients such as vitamin E to protect the skin, camellia oil omega to nourish and hydrate, and evening primrose to heal and soothe.

The cream cleanser is dreamy too, it's quite a whipped texture, and actually quite wet, so it feels insanely nice and comforting on the skin which it leaves soft and happy. In fact, I got a bit carried away with the old facial massage the first time I used Double Cleanse, and it resulted in my skin looking so fresh afterwards so I may have to indulge in this on the regular! The ingredients in the cream are also very notable and exactly what you'd expect from Caroline! There's vitamin c to promote collagen stimulation, peptides to help plump fine lines and arginine to get those cells turning over and improve elasticity.

The only negative I can sort of find with Double Cleanse (and I'm grasping at straws here!), is that you're probably not going to finish each side at the same time; I can see myself chomping through the cream side at a rate of knots. If only you could get individual refills! Caroline has said that Double Cleanse is a limited release but it will be around quite a while, so I'll be stocking up for sure...not going to take a chance of missing out..

What are your thoughts on double cleansing? Worth it or is once enough for you?
