How To Beat The January Blues

how-to-beat-the-january-blues

It's two weeks into the new year and the January blues have well and truly got to me. Whether its because of the gloomy winter days, not having an excuse to languish on the sofa in my pjs or the guilt of Christmas over eating, I've been in a bit of a funk and I don't like it.

I normally like the beginning of the new year and the excitement of starting fresh and making the most out of the opportunities that may come my way, so here's a few things I've been trying out to get me back on my A game.

GIVING MY SKIN WHAT IT NEEDS

A mixture of over indulging and the harshness of the weather and heating can wreck havoc on your skin. For me that generally means sensitivity and dehyrdation. I ran out of a few essentials so picked up a couple of things from the Chanel Hydra Beauty range. The Chanel Hydra Beauty Mask is everything I love in a face mask. It delivers a serious amount of hydration to the skin, leaving it super soft and much plumper. It's a pretty clever little mask as it delivers the optimal amount of hydration, so won't overload your skin and cause it to freak out. It also contains antioxidants so helps protect the skin from environmental aggressors - so important if you're a city girl like me.

I've almost finished my current moisturiser (Roger & Gallet if you're wondering), so I also grabbed a tub of Chanel Hydra Beauty Creme to accompany the mask. I've been using this in the day on  top of my serum and so far, so good. My skin looks much more awake and radiant so we're off to a good start.

A WARDROBE CLEAR OUT AND EBAYING WHAT I DON'T NEED

If I have to venture outdoors in normal outside appropriate attire I want to look presentable and feel good about myself. Unfortunately, my wardrobe is more of a floorobe right now and I can't find anything. It's literally a sea of black. I find pulling everything out, trying it all on and being quite ruthless is pretty cleansing for the soul. I like to have a good dust around and popped in some Woods of Windsor True Rose Fragranced Drawer Liners* before folding everything nicely and putting it all away properly. As well as looking super pretty, these draw liners smell so beautiful and fresh, and it's really nice to get a nice waft of rose every time I pick out an outfit.

I've got quite good at selling or passing on pieces that I'm not getting much wear out of or have fallen out of love with these dats, so I listed a couple of things on Ebay. One sold really quickly so that definitely helped pick up my mood and now I don't have to survive on pasta for the rest of the month. Bonus!

A TIDY HOME = A TIDY HAPPY MIND

Also on the same thread is having a tidy up of the house, an early spring clean if you will. Having a clean and tidy house is quite cathartic, it makes me feel so much happier and in control of my little world. I also moved quite a few things around, restyling the books and candles on the coffee table as well as organising and decluttering my desk and beauty drawers.

I popped a Woods of Windor Pomegranate & Hibiscus Bath & Shower Gel* and the matching Hand Wash* in the bathroom, which smell absolutely divine. The bottles also look gorgeous in our new white bathroom which is so Pinteresty I know. I really like using full ranges of bath products like this, especially when they're as addictive as these ones.

As the bathroom is apparently considered as one of my rooms where I get full say when it comes to decorating, I went for floral products, but for the kitchen I thought Honeyed Pear and Amber* was a little more unisex. It's a really warm and comforting scent so the perfect little pick me up. My skin gets so dry in the winter so I have to be super careful that I don't anything harsh or stripping, so something like the Woods of Windsor range is great as everything is hydrating and luxurious to boot.

Have you got any tips for beating the January blues?
