Barely There Beauty

neutral-every-day-makeup

There are some days that call for a full on dramatic smokey eye, some where only a bold bright lip will do, but more than often there's those days when a barely there, natural look is the way to go. You know those weekends when you've thrown your hair up in a soft messy bun that took more time to put together than you'd care to admit, the sort of day when you're off for brunch with some friends and want to channel those off duty model vibes.

When I'm having one of those days I want my makeup to be there but not look there, and I certainly don't want to faff about with foundation so brilliant for a good skin day. This little collection of products is perfect for just that.

Even on good skin day my skin can do with a bit of radiance, so primer is a step I'll never miss. Stila's One Step Correct will always be my favourite for its colour correcting magic, but at the moment I'm mixing things up with the Stila One Step Illuminate Primer*. It's pretty moisturising so great for grey dehydrated skins in winter, and it has the most beautiful radiant inducing shimmer to it. One Step Illuminate isn't at all glittery, but manages to fake a few extra hours sleep and make you look like you've had a facial the day before - pretty powerful stuff! The three different coloured pigments mix together to highlight, brighten and warm up the complexion, but if you can't live without foundation this really helps keep things in place too and keeps your skin nourished throughout the day.

I like adding another primer on top, which may be a bit much for some, but I love this combination. By Terry Celluarose Brightening CC Lumi Serum is quite an interesting one. It sits between skincare and makeup, and makes my skin look incredible. There's four shades to choose from (I have Apricot Glow), so it has a little bit of colour to it, but on the very sheer side. This is such a flattering shade for my pale skin tone as it injects a little bit of life to my complexion and helps blur out any imperfections. I am literally obsessed!

As I'm skipping foundation I jump straight over to a little By Terry Densiliss Concealer under the eyes, which as you know using everyday. Like the CC serum it has the most gorgeous light velvety texture and doesn't look cakey at all. To give my skin a little bit of warmth and to attempt to add in some cheekbones I've been using the Stila Perfectly Poreless Putty Perfector in Light*. This is actually a powder foundation, but when I was introduced to this by Stila's lead makeup artist Sascha - who is such a lovely gal but the way - she actually used it in a slight darker shade like a bronzer on me and I've been using it like this ever since. It's super finely milled and as it's only one shade darker for me and matte it looks really natural. The texture is pretty much invisible on my skin and in the summer months when I have more colour I'll be wearing this all over I'm sure.

For eyes it has to be a neutral brown, so you can't really go wrong with something like Burberry Pale Barley. It's just such a good all-rounder. Slightly shimmery but still quite natural, this makes my eyes look so much more awake. I tend to smudge a tiny amount of By Terry Ombre Blackstar in Bronze Moon under my lash line and up around the crease. It's almost an identical shade to Pale Barley but the cream formula stays put all day under my lashes. And talking of lashes, I'm absolutely loving Stila Huge Extreme Lashe Mascara*. It's super black and has a large wand that grabs every little hair, curling and volumising as you go. It doesn't clump and one coat is the perfect amount for every day.

For neutral makeup days I don't want to worry about smearing my lipstick, so tend to go with something fairly similar to my natural lip shade that's super low maintenance. I finally tracked down the Tanya Burr Lipstick in Pink Cocoa which was sold out everywhere for ages. It's on the sheer side of things but is so moisturising, so it doesn't last that long on me, but the shade is so pretty that I'll forgive it! It's my perfect my lips but better shade and it's my absolute go-to for a soft makeup look like this.

I'm clearly loving a lot of By Terry and Stila right now (and gold packaging it would seem), but both brands can do no wrong in my eyes right now! Do you have any recommendations of products that I should try out next from them?
