Coffee With Currys & Nespresso

A couple of weeks ago I went to a Currys and Nespresso blogger event which was organised by the lovelies at the Joes Blogs network. Despite having to hop on a train up to London and be practially up the road to my office on a Saturday, it was such a lovely day. It was held at The Fable in Holborn, which I've never been to before but it's such a lovely bar and restaurant - one I definitely have to find an excuse to go return to. The toilets were total bathroom inspiration with gorgeous sinks and cocktail recipes written on the mirrors.

We were all split into groups and began an afternoon packed with coffee related activities. First up my group had cocktail making. Bloggers, coffee and alcohol - what could go wrong? Unfortunately it meant I was clumsier than ever, slopping cream about and generally spilling everything I touched. Yup, I cannot be trusted! We created two cocktails that featured coffee, so we had to get to grips with using the Nespresso machine to pour our own espressos. The machines were super easy to use, yes, even for clumsy 'ol me! We do have a coffee machine at home but after using one I really want a Nespresso now, especially the one that can froth milk too. They look so sleek and they're not too chunky either.

Fancy giving these cocktails ago yourself? Here are the recipes:

Next up we went onto coffee tasting with a couple of the guys from Nespresso. We tasted some different coffees and paired them with some rather Pinterest worthy chocolates to bring out their individual flavours. The pink one was definitely my favourite! I'm not a fan of really strong coffee so it was really interesting to test my tastebuds which definitely concurred with that!

The last activity was latte art and I got to use the rather scary barista style coffee machine to pour a latte and then dust some chocolate powder on it. I don't think I'll be applying for a job in Starbucks any time soon but it was great to learn exactly how to make a good coffee from one of the pros.

I'm literally going to stalk Currys over the next few weeks now in case one of these bad boy Nespresso machines go into the January sale. The pods work out at about 30p each which is a hell of a lot cheaper than I thought. I really want to try out all of the different flavours, mainly as the coloured pods are drool worthy and I think they'd look pretty good all lined up in my kitchen! Nespresso are also a very sustainable and environmentally friendly brand. Their standards are actually higher than Fair Trade - bet you didn't know that either?
